Hands-on Physical with a Medical Professional
A comprehensive, hands-on evaluation that assesses an individual’s overall health, mobility, strength, range of motion, and physical function to identify potential limitations or concerns that may affect their ability to safely perform the essential duties of their position.
Hearing + Vision
Comprehensive hearing and vision evaluations performed in accordance with applicable NFPA 1582 guidelines to assess sensory function and identify potential limitations that could affect a firefighter’s ability to safely and effectively perform essential job duties.
Lab Tests
Comprehensive laboratory testing as indicated by NFPA 1582, departmental requirements, and medical direction to evaluate overall health and identify conditions that may affect a firefighter’s ability to safely perform essential job duties. Testing may include CBC, CMP, lipid panel, blood glucose/A1c, urinalysis, and other clinically indicated laboratory assessments.

ECG Testing
A supervised cardiovascular fitness assessment using ECG monitoring and the Gerkin protocol to evaluate heart response, exercise tolerance, and aerobic capacity during progressively increasing workloads without requiring maximal exertion.
Spirometry
A pulmonary function assessment that measures how much air an individual can inhale and exhale and how quickly they can exhale, helping evaluate lung function and identify potential respiratory limitations.
Biometrics
A baseline health and body composition evaluation measuring height, weight, blood pressure, and body fat percentage to provide a snapshot of overall health and identify potential risk factors.
TB Assessment
Tuberculosis (TB) assessments may include either a skin-based PPD test or a QuantiFERON-TB (QFT) blood test to screen for tuberculosis infection and support appropriate follow-up when indicated.

Annual mental health consultations provide first responders with an opportunity to meet with a licensed mental health professional as part of their annual physical, addressing stress, coping, emotional well-being, and the unique challenges associated with public-safety professions.
WFI Fitness Testing
A comprehensive firefighter fitness assessment designed to evaluate cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. The results help identify areas for improvement, support injury prevention, and promote the physical readiness needed to safely perform the demanding duties of the fire service.
